Charting a Path to Digital Talent Development Through AI Hackathons

As digital transformation prevails and GenAI proliferates rapidly, the key to perfecting career planning for employees has evolved beyond training courses. It is becoming critical to empower them with transferable skills accumulated through actual experience and enhance their work values in all aspects. Between March and June 2025, FENC hosted the NotebookLM AI Hackathon, using cross-departmental competition to promote AI empowerment, drive digital transformation and help staff in non-technical units, such as administrative, finance, human resources and legal departments, leverage AI to address information overload, complex regulations and repetitive tasks.
Google NotebookLM was used as the primary tool for the competition, and competing teams were guided to structure internal knowledge such as SAP manuals, insurance clauses, international tax laws and historical freight rates. The teams then developed solutions for different business scenarios, such as HR 7x24 Intelligent Assistant, AI Financial Expert and the currency hedging prediction model, HedgeSense, and presented the solutions to demonstrate effectiveness and transferability.
The implementation of various AI applications has helped employees build and accumulate digital capabilities through collaboration, problem-solving and data governance. In terms of performance, the AI Financial Expert nearly quadrupled the efficiency of report interpretation, and the Payment Inquiry Robot achieved 99% accuracy and improved response time by 80%. AI also provided the Human Resources Department with precise strategic advices during the competition and saved 98% of its operational time. By integrating learning and practice, FENC is developing a bottom-up culture of innovation, incorporating digital savviness that delivers results as part of career development to galvanize employees’ resilience and FENC’s sustainable competitiveness.
