Empowering FENV Employees with Life Skills and Gender Equality Training

FENV’s promotion of diversity and inclusion focuses on capacity building and workplace safety, boosting employee participation and trust at work through systematic approaches. To build a safe working environment, FENV teamed up with CARE Vietnam and lululemon on an 18-month workplace sexual harassment prevention program. With the goal on creating an operational mechanism for prevention and handling, the program focuses on policies and processes, examining and improving grievance and handling procedures. A concurrent effort offers training and consultation by legal and gender experts to help the management and frontline employees understand the division of responsibilities, identify risky scenarios and become familiar with the principles for response. The program is expected to train 17 prevention committee members and 20 seed instructors, and 240 employees will participate in the demonstration during instructional training, creating a ripple effect within FENV and fostering a workplace that values respect, equality and trust.
To enhance employee empowerment, FENV worked in conjunction with Columbia Sportswear and implemented the program, SERI Foundations, which aims to improve employees’ physical health and financial literacy and amplify the results through a peer educator model. During the initial stage, 65 employees were trained by experts as peer educators, approximately 70% of whom are women. After completing the training, the educators, with picture cards as teaching materials, returned to their units to help their peers acquire knowledge in subjects such as health, financial management and self-development. This peer-driven, workplace-based approach lowers the learning threshold and promotes behavioral change. To boost program quality, learning assessments were incorporated into the key performance indicators, and an allowance of 50,000 VND per session is provided to the educators as an incentive. The program has reached over 2,500 employees, and over 76.4 million VND has been awarded to date, supporting the peer educators’ consistent efforts in promoting learning and amplifying the impact.
The two concurrent programs are helping FENV enhance the life skills and self-efficacy of its employees and establish a more robust gender equality and workplace safety mechanism, which enables employees of different genders and backgrounds to thrive while being respected and supported in a stable environment, leading to strengthened organizational resilience and talent sustainability.
