Accelerating Low-carbon Energy Transition with High-efficiency Natural Gas Boilers



The polyester plant of FEPV reached a major milestone in energy transition and carbon reduction through a boiler replacement project, in which existing coal-fired boilers were phased out and replaced by three high-efficiency natural gas models. The project tackles carbon emissions and mitigates environmental impacts by addressing the energy source. Compared with coal-fired boilers, natural gas models offer superior combustion efficiency and significantly reduce pollutant emissions, which improve air quality and overall energy efficiency, laying a firm foundation for low-carbon operations.
The plant finalized a long-term natural gas supply agreement with a Vietnamese supplier in March 2025, followed by the commencement of civil, structural and infrastructure works in August of the same year. Without any production interruption, the existing coal-fired boilers were removed and the natural gas models were installed in phases. The installation of the first new boiler was completed, and the trial run began in December 2025.
Once fully operational, the three boilers are estimated to avoid approximately 66,098 tCO₂e of GHG emissions annually.
